TYPE 9 Scattering Sun
The Armoury, in collaboration with RESSENCE, introduces the TYPE 9 ARM Scattering Sun—a limited edition timepiece that marries the iconic modernity of the TYPE 9 with The Armoury’s classical sensibility.

Designers’ Notes
Elliot and I have long admired Ressence and its founder, Benoît Mintiens. Their work embodies an intelligent, modern minimalism that is instantly recognisable. With this collaboration, our goal was to gently steer the Ressence aesthetic towards something more classic, achieved through subtle but deliberate decoration.

The Concept
We named the watch the Scattering Sun to highlight its relationship with light. Every element—the case, dial, chapter rings, and bezel—interacts with light in its own distinct way. The resulting interplay creates a watch that is constantly shifting, alive on the wrist.

The 39mm Case
At 39mm, the Type 9 is the most compact model in the Ressence collection. Short, refined lugs make it wear even smaller than its dimensions suggest. In order to shrink the watch as much as possible, the minute track has been moved onto the Type 9’s bezel. The case is startlingly light thanks to its titanium composition.

Scatering Sun Bezel
The bezel is a defining feature. Its undulating fluted ridges mark the minutes, while lumed flat sections highlight every five-minute interval. The complex geometry of the bezel makes the watch come to life on the wrist, creating ever-changing patterns of light.

Salmon and Sand
The Scattering Sun’s dial has been rendered in an elegant shade of salmon. The color is discreet but rich in detail thanks to the fine, sandy texture that reveals a glint of gold as you pass your eye over the dial’s curved surface.
How to Wear It
For us, this watch is a dream realised: a Ressence that complements fine tailoring and The Armoury’s aesthetic. The salmon dial and brown suede strap pair elegantly with earthy tones of brown and olive, while offering a striking contrast against navy and charcoal.

About Ressence
Founded by Benoît Mintiens in 2010, Antwerp-based RESSENCE is redefining watchmaking by establishing a new paradigm. Known for its patented Orbital Convex System, which replaces traditional hands with rotating discs, RESSENCE creates watches that are intuitive, legible, and deeply human. Innovations such as oil-filled dials and the absence of a crown are centered on enhancing ergonomics, clarity, and the overall experience. Ressence applies design thinking to fine watchmaking, giving functional meaning to mechanical watches for customers who value clarity without sacrificing character and functionality without compromising beauty.
“The Armoury pushed us to consider proportions and details we would never have explored alone – smaller scale, more classical decoration, and colours associated with traditional watchmaking,”
— Benoît Mintiens
