Cohérence: Outerwear for City and Country

We review one of our favorite outerwear brands and dive into the history behind some of our most popular pieces.

Cohérence founder Kentaro Nakagomi draws inspiration from legendary artists, writers, musicians, and intellectuals of the 20th century to create versatile outerwear with personality. Each piece is produced within a small batch to the same level of quality as our Armoury tailoring, often with hand-attached collars and great attention to detail.

The Armoury has partnered with Cohérence since its very first season, proudly stocking their coats and jackets both in Hong Kong and New York. Relationships like this one allow us to create our own exclusive models that combine their expertise with our international classic aesthetic.

The Models
The Charles

Our newest collaboration piece is the Charles Coat, named for Charles Mingus, the legendary jazz bassist and composer who famously once shot his shotgun indoors. Armoury co-founder Mark Cho worked together with Nakagomi-san to create this modern shooting jacket. The Charles features sleeves designed for maximum range of motion, hand-warmer pockets, and large patch pockets for you to keep shotgun shells or more likely, a book, your smartphone, or a tablet.

The Marc

The Armoury exclusive Marc Coat was inspired by French-American painter and writer Marcel Duchamp. The style is originally derived from the dispatch rider's coat from WWII. We added a simplified belting system and adjusted the proportions with a lower waist and buttoning point. The Marc is modified to make the style more practical and suitable for city life than the original.

The Corb

The Corb Coat has become a real favorite of ours, and we've had it made up in raincoat as well as in Cohérence's famous tweed. We also carry this luxurious wool/cashmere blend, part of Cohérence's 5-year anniversary collection. The Corb was inspired by French architect Le Corbusier and features raglan sleeves, flapped hacking pockets, and large turnback cuffs.

The Corb II

The Corb II is a variation of the Corb that incorporates large patch flapped pockets with a ticket pocket. We had it made in a super high gauged 100% cotton poplin, which carries a soft hand that blends breathability with elasticity.

The Gianni

The Gianni harrington jacket is styled after one worn by director Michelangelo Antonioni and features raglan sleeves, a flapped ticket pocket and extended collar tab.

The Ruiz

The Ruiz model is inspired by a portrait of Pablo Picasso who’s middle name was Ruiz. Armoury co-founder Mark Cho consulted on the design during its early stages. The Ruiz features large front buttons, side vents, a slim lapel and collar.

The Monocle

The Monocle model is inspired by a portrait from 1928 and features large front buttons, side vents, a slim lapel and collar.
