Talking with David Moltz of D.S. & Durga

D.S. & Durga are a self-taught husband and wife duo that make small batch scents from their in Brooklyn workshop. Each perfume or cologne harks back to the old days of America, with stories of burning barbershops and cowboy grass.

“Crisp grey wool in soft herringbone tweed. A misty landscape of everyday comfort flecked with flowering grasses.” Grey Blazer is a grey blazer of fragrance – that donegal flecked herringbone you can wear everyday most of the year in formal or relaxed settings. It’s a broadly appealing concoction of herbs, flowers, spices, tea, and musk that works on anyone, anywhere. Inspired by his vision of an early 2000s corporate punk dreaming of greener Irish pastures, like those of his Donegal Tweed Blazer, D.S. of the eponymous D.S. & Durga has concocted this eau de parfum as a love letter to punks wanting out of “the life” and being transported to a different place by the smell of wool.

“Get out on the danse parquet and let your powdered wig down to vivacious Viola de Gamba grooves. It’s baroque, baby!” Cognac Reign poses the question: What would a 300 year old cognac barrel cracked open on the F train smell like? A few spritzes of this and you may have the answer. Inspired by his love for Baroque music, D.S. of the eponymous D.S. & Durga has concocted this eau de parfum as a love letter to the genre and surrounding time period.

“Amongst the transcendental woods of the 1800s, craftsmen from the Massachusetts Bay Colony built violins & bows in the tiny towns of the Pioneer Valley. The shops were riddled with old growth mahogany, burled maple shavings, amber pine rosin, aged walnut & their unique secret varnishes.”
