A Week’s Worth: Alice Yip

Alice Yip takes us through a week’s worth of outfits at The Armoury UES.

Alice joined The Armoury Hong Kong team in 2016, working across our original Pedder Street shop, the Landmark location, and later Pedder Arcade. In 2025, she relocated to New York and now leads our Upper East Side store, bringing nearly a decade of experience shaped across continents. We asked Alice to walk us through some of her favorite Armoury pieces, styled alongside a few of her cherished vintage finds.

"I’ve always wanted a classic trench coat for the rainy seasons in both Hong Kong and New York, and this Coherence AL II trench coat is hard to beat. Inspired by Albert Camus’ 1950s trench, it was originally designed as a military garment and is made from Nakagomi-san’s specially developed Cohérence waterproof cotton gabardine. I also appreciate the raglan sleeves without the shoulder epaulettes which give it a cleaner look."

"Casentino is kind of a love-it-or-hate-it fabric, and I happen to really enjoy its distinctive look and texture. When we first launched the Road Jacket model, I knew I wanted one made in a winter-weight fabric, and Casentino immediately came to mind. I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It pairs effortlessly with both my tailored pieces and more casual outfits."

"I was thrilled when we received the Couture Tweed fabric swatches from Abraham Moon. The textures were rich, the colors refined, and the overall look incredibly luxurious. After having a Road Jacket made in a light-colored fabric, I knew I wanted another one from this collection. I ultimately chose the black tweed with colorful specks. It’s easy to wear day to day while still feeling elevated and indulgent."

"Compared to a dark suit or jacket, I love how a light-colored jacket can brighten an entire look and give it a more refreshing feel. I’m also a big fan of chambray shirts, light or dark, they pair well with almost anything.

And since I enjoy adding colors to my outfits, I’ve found one of the easiest, most understated ways to do it is through a colorful tie and pocket square. Their smaller proportions keep the look balanced, even when the colors are bold. Sometimes a purple tie and a mustard-yellow pocket square can look surprisingly harmonious together."

"I have always wanted an evening suit or something that I could wear to formal events from The Armoury. However, I’ve never really liked the women’s tuxedos on the market; they’re usually either too slim-fitting or overly structured. Eventually I came up with this idea using a 100% silk fabric from Draper's Bingley bunch and had it made into a double breasted jacket with a self facing lapel, and matching wide leg trousers. I've been experimenting with different trousers fits over the years and I like how these turned out. The wide leg cut with the silk fabric really gives a more elegant, luxurious feel to it."
