A Week's Worth: Dan Quigley

Dan Quigley of The Armoury New York takes us through a typical week with stops at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Little Island, and his personal art studio.

Tuesday Morning | The Armoury Westbury

"The start of my work week usually consists of getting my thoughts together after a busy weekend. There are always a few client orders that need to be reviewed and placed. These lighter traffic days are also the best opportunity to focus on dressing some mannequins and moving new product into the shop. This calls for an unstructured sport jacket and trouser— nothing too serious and something easy to move in."

Wednesday Afternoon | Sourcing trip to D.S. & Durga

"One of the best things about The Armoury is that we get to work with some really interesting people: colleagues, clients and vendors alike. On this particular day we visited D.S. & Durga, a fragrance brand out of Brooklyn, meeting with co-founder and scent guru David Moltz. We discussed some new products and how they add to the experience for clients of The Armoury. Vendor visits like these are as much fun as they are business. Being so, business attire (i.e. a button-down shirt and a sport jacket) was appropriate."

Thursday Evening | The Studio

"I paint five nights a week and all day on Mondays. I have a very utilitarian wardrobe inside my studio. For example, I am almost always in jeans (ones that I can get paint on), because that’s gonna happen, and comfortable sneakers. I usually swap between old t-shirts and casual chambray shirts. I keep a Safari jacket handy for the cooler nights. On this particular day I was getting some paintings ready for a gallery exhibit. I tossed on this crimson safari jacket because I love the color and found its energy inspiring. My standard attire also includes headphones. Ceremoniously, I plug into my playlist to get into the zone and detach from the world around me."

Saturday Evening | Little Island

"By Saturday, my band width is dissipating. Besides meditating, painting and spending time with my family, it can be nice to get time alone and walk around this phenomenal city. I love spending time in outdoor spaces created for city dwellers like myself. Places like Little Island, on the water and with a tremendous view of the city help, me recharge. Dressing comfortably in a shawl cardigan is usually pretty grounding."

Sunday Brunch | Olea Restaurant

"Sunday Funday, and in New York that usually means brunch with friends or family (or both if you’re lucky!). On this day I went to Olea, one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. When I lived closer, my wife and I would go here almost weekly. The food, drinks, atmosphere and service are always top-notch. My colleague Jim lives nearby, so we grabbed a bite together. It was a pleasure to be back with the gang. Not wanting to dress like a slob, I put on my favorite new City Hunter jacket— made-to-order in a Glencheck wool, the heavier weight was perfect for outdoor dining."
